Ahimsa silk or “Peace Silk" is a hand spun type of silk originally created for Buddhist monks who did not want silk made from a method that killed the moths. Traditionally the silk moths are gassed in their cocoons to keep them from harming the silk when they emerge. To produce "Peace Silk" the cocoons are harvested after the moths have safely emerged by cutting a small hole in the cocoon. This shortens the silk fibers and causes a nubby texture.
Handspun in India, 2-ply, and slightly thick and thin.
